Laser Cataract Surgery

How is All Laser Cataract Surgery Different?

In traditional cataract surgery, a surgical blade is used to create a self-sealing incision to begin the cataract surgery. This step is one of the most delicate steps in cataract surgery and is critical to the safety and efficacy of the procedure. When all laser cataract surgery is performed, a femtosecond laser is used to create the self-sealing incision and increased precision is achieved. The two most critical components are the patient docking interface and the image guidance system. The docking system allows for stable, yet comfortable docking for the OCT and the laser, while the image guidance system allows Dr. Thomas to, with extreme precision, identify the ocular surfaces, establish safety zones and customize treatment based on your exact measurements. This allows the femtosecond laser to deliver pulses into the exact location.

It is important to remember that your replacement intra-ocular lens (IOL) is placed through this same incision, and the precision of this incision is crucial for the best visual outcome.
